Minimum completion of the basic 36 hour Activity Director course or other similar training required.
Summary
Initiates and oversees Life Enrichment programs to ensure community member satisfaction and the proper completion of activities within a timely manner. Encourages community member participation in programs that meet the community member's mental and physical needs. Assists in Providing goal-oriented and appropriate group and/or individual sessions designed to meet the needs of all participants and completes documentation on activity plan designed for each participant in a timely manner following established guidelines. Initiates activity documentation and completes assessment within 14 days of move-in. Monitors community members weekly. Completes documentation of community member participation in education and leisure programs at least three times weekly in the activity log. Documentation will be recorded in the health record each quarter and when there is a significant change in the community member's ability to participate. Prepares and displays monthly calendar to ensure that community members are participating in planned programs and aware of what is available to them. Assists Coordinator in the development of programs that would best meet these individuals needs as well as continuing to meet the needs of new community members. Assists in the planning of effective individualized programming through written assessment and multi-disciplinary treatment participation. Demonstrates accountability for assessing, updating and maintaining community member skills through education and leisure programs. Assists in applying standards of performance improvement to exceed the needs of the community members and improve education and leisure programs. Ensures that the necessary supplies and equipment is arranged for in a proper and timely manner prior to the activity. Works with team members to set-up for programs, invites community members and guests, initiate and encourage participation in activities, and clean up after each activity is completed. Welcomes and prepares for new community members, visits community members on special occasions, writes and creates written and visual displays for community member appreciation. Monitors activity in the activity center and keeps work area clean and free of anything that could be harmful to community members. Assists in decorating or set-up for special events. Follows all policies and procedures related to the bus and safety of community members while attending outings on the bus. May be assigned other duties as appropriate.
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Continued education in Recreational Therapy or related field preferred
- Must have knowledge of growth and development and show expertise for geriatric population
- CPR Certification required or willing to obtain within six months of employment
- One year geriatric experience preferred
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Ability to perform necessary documentation in writing
- Ability to lift and/or move items with weights of 10-30lbs using proper lifting techniques and with assistance when necessary
- Manual dexterity and skillful use of hands when working with patients and equipment
